May 21, 2026

The Federal College of Education (FCE), Ilawe-Ekiti, recently hosted a high-level sensitisation and training workshop for its staff, featuring a delegation from the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Ekiti State Office. The programme, held within the College Auditorium, was anchored by the College Public Relations Officer (PRO) and opened with welcoming remarks from the Acting Provost and College Librarian, Dr. Abdulmumin Isah. In his address, Dr. Isah reaffirmed the College’s commitment to the health and overall well-being of its workforce, a position strongly supported by the presence of key principal officers, including the College Registrar, Dr. Khadijah Wuraola Garba, and the Bursar, Mrs. Mofoluso Olutayo-David.

The training was led by the NHIA Ekiti State Coordinator, Mrs. Atitebi Abiola, who delivered an overview of the Authority’s mandate and highlighted the transition from the former NHIS framework to the current NHIA Act of 2022. She subsequently handed over to a technical team comprising Mr. Adeyele John (Head of Administration & Human Resources), Mr. Akindele Olufunso Emmanuel (Enforcement), and Mr Ige Joshua Toluwalase (ICT), who facilitated detailed sessions on the contributory Health Insurance Scheme and its operational structure.

Participants were taken through the NHIA benefit package, which includes outpatient services, maternity care covering up to four live births with 12 weeks of postnatal support for newborns, and access to specialised medical consultations. The ICT and enforcement facilitators also emphasised the compulsory use of the National Identification Number (NIN) for registration and enrollment, while outlining enrollees’ rights, including the freedom to select accredited healthcare providers and access grievance redress mechanisms under the Authority.

The session featured an interactive question-and-answer segment where staff concerns were addressed comprehensively. It was brought to a close with a vote of thanks delivered by the Bursar, Mrs Mofoluso Olutayo-David, followed by the rendition of the College Anthem, marking a successful engagement aimed at strengthening awareness and implementation of universal health coverage within the College community.
