August 20, 2025
The Federal College of Education, Ilawe-Ekiti, began its Students Orientation Programme with an opening session graced by the College’s Principal Officers, Deans, Directors, and Heads of Departemnts. The Programme, designed to integrate newly admitted Students into the College system, provided insights into the institution’s vision, rules, and opportunities.
In attendance were the Registrar, Mrs. Khadijah Wuraola Garba; the Bursar, Mrs. Mofolusho Olutayo-David; and the College Librarian, Dr. Isah Abdulmumin, who represented the Provost, Prof. Ajigbade Ikuejube. Delivering the Provost’s address, Dr. Isah explained that Prof. Ikuejube was unavoidably absent due to an official engagement. He conveyed the Provost’s goodwill message, stressing the importance of laying a solid foundation for the College’s future, producing quality teachers who will be worthy ambassadors of the institution, and encouraging students to remain focused on their primary assignment of learning.
The Registrar, Mrs. Garba, spoke on the College’s history, vision, mission, administrative structure, and the dos and don’ts expected of students. She encouraged them to embrace discipline and commitment as core values for academic success.
In her remarks, the Bursar, Mrs. Olutayo-David, enlightened the students on payment procedures and gave a practical demonstration on how to make payments through the remita platform. She further highlighted opportunities available to students, including access to scholarships and support from the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND).
The College Librarian, Dr. Isah, also stressed the importance of effective use of the College Library, describing it as a critical resource for academic growth and success.
The Acting Dean of Education, Dr. (Mrs). Oyewale represented by Mr. Afolabi from the School of Education, delivered a lecture on the importance of teacher education. He addressed misconceptions about the NCE programme, noting that while career prospects may sometimes be misunderstood, the qualification remains central to the teaching profession. He further emphasised that the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) is the professional license that qualifies individuals to practice as teachers in educational settings.
Similarly, the Acting Chairman of the Committee of Deans and Directors, Acting Dean, School of Science, Vocational and Technical Education, gave a presentation on academic rules and regulations. He reminded the students that only those with valid admission letters are duly recognised by the College and stressed that no official activity can be carried out without the Provost’s approval. He also outlined the rules guiding examinations and other academic processes, urging students to adhere strictly to institutional regulations.
To add colour to the occasion, the programme featured a cultural dance session by the students, which showcased Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage. The performance was well received and created an atmosphere of excitement and unity among the newly admitted students.
The Day-One session concluded with students expressing appreciation for the clarity and guidance received, as well as the cultural display that added vibrancy to the event.
