An accomplished Academic and Researcher, Dr. Oyewale specializes in History and Policy of Education, holding a Ph.D. and M.Ed. in the discipline from the University of Ibadan and a B.A. (Ed.) in History from Obafemi Awolowo University. She has taught at Ekiti State University, Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, and now serves as a Senior Lecturer at the Federal College of Education, Ilawe-Ekiti.
Known for her work in curriculum design, innovative teaching strategies, and ICT integration, her research spans history pedagogy, indigenous education, and educational policy.
Beyond her personal achievements, Dr. Oyewale is determined to dismantle myths that have plagued Colleges of Education for decades.
Myth 1: Limited Career Prospects
“People assume our graduates can only teach in primary or secondary schools,” she notes. “In truth, they go on to careers in educational administration, policy analysis, counselling, curriculum design, corporate training, and much more.”
Myth 2: Lower Academic Rigor
Some think colleges of education are less challenging than other fields. “Our programmes demand mastery of pedagogy, subject expertise, classroom management, and practical training,” Dr. Oyewale says. “They are every bit as rigorous as other professional paths.”
Myth 3: Narrow Focus on Teaching Methods
Critics often imagine the curriculum is limited to classroom techniques. In reality, Dr. Oyewale explains, “We cover educational psychology, policy, leadership, special education, and technology integration, often in interdisciplinary ways.”
The damage from these misconceptions is tangible: reduced enrolment and a narrow view of graduates’ potential. For Dr. Oyewale, shifting perceptions means more advocacy, greater visibility for alumni successes, and a broader public understanding of the colleges’ role in national development.
Beyond academia, she contributes to her community through the Mothers’ Union of the Anglican Communion, and enjoys research, travel, and singing. Her career and advocacy stand as proof that colleges of education are not just training teachers they are cultivating the minds that will shape Nigeria’s future.
