Hon. Taiye Opaleke 
Council Member, Federal College of Education, Ilawe-Ekiti


Born in October 1946 in Offa, Kwara State, Nigeria, Hon. Taiye Opaleke is a highly respected professional teacher, accomplished administrator, seasoned politician, and distinguished community leader whose career spans several decades of impactful public service.

He began his educational journey at Provincial Secondary School, later known as Government Secondary School, Sokoto. He proceeded to the School of Education, then a department of Kwara State College of Technology, Ilorin, where he obtained the Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) in Business Education. He further advanced his studies at Ahmadu Bello

University, Zaria, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Education (BBE).

Hon. Opaleke’s professional career reflects a rich blend of administrative, educational, and public service experience. He worked with the General Post Office in Kaduna and the Plateau Civil Service Centre in Jos before transitioning into the education sector. As an educationist, he served with the Katsina Local Government Education Authority in Funtua and later as a teacher at Oyun Baptist High School, Ijagbo, Kwara State. His leadership capabilities saw him rise to the position of Principal at Ipee Baptist Grammar School and Offa Community Secondary School, Offa.

A politician of repute, Hon. Opaleke has held several key public offices, demonstrating unwavering commitment to governance and grassroots development. He served as Chairman of the Transition Implementation Committee (TIC) of Offa Local Government Area, Chairman of the Governing Council of Kwara State College of Education, Oro, and as Deputy Chief of Staff to the Executive Governor of Kwara State.

At the national level, he was elected as a Member of the Federal House of Representatives, Abuja, representing the Offa/Oyun/Ifelodun Federal Constituency. During his tenure, he contributed actively as a member of several strategic committees, including the Committees on Education; Peace and National Reconciliation; Labour, Employment and Productivity; Privatization and Commercialization; Banking and Currency; and Drugs, Narcotics and Financial Crimes.

He currently serves as a Member of the Governing Council of the Federal College of Education, Ilawe-Ekiti, where he continues to bring his wealth of experience to bear in advancing the institution’s mandate.

A revered traditional figure, Hon. Opaleke holds chieftaincy titles across several communities in Offa, Oyun, Asa, and Isin Local Government Areas of Kwara State. His enduring contributions to governance, education, and community development have earned him widespread respect and recognition.

Through his lifelong dedication to service, leadership, and human capital development, Hon. Taiye Opaleke has left an indelible mark on society and remains a respected voice in both political and educational spheres.
