Our Requirements for

Admission

The Federal College of Education, Ilawe-Ekiti, welcomes prospective students to apply for its Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) programme, designed to equip future educators with the knowledge, skills, and professional values needed for effective teaching. Admission into the programme is based on clearly defined requirements set by the College and the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), ensuring that all candidates meet high academic and ethical standards. Our academic structure, registration process, attendance policy, and assessment procedures are tailored to support student success, while our programme duration and award criteria ensure graduates are well-prepared to contribute meaningfully to the education sector.

Admission Requirements – NCE Programme

SSCE/WAEC/NECO/NABTEB or GCE ‘O’ Level
Credit passes in five subjects, including English and Mathematics.
Grade II Teachers’ Certificate (TC II)
Credit or merit in five subjects, including Mathematics and English.
Pre-NCE Programme
Successful completion of the Pre-NCE programme of the College and meeting the JAMB requirements grants automatic admission into the three-year NCE programme.
General JAMB Requirement
All candidates must meet the admission requirements stipulated by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

Registration for Courses and Assessment Procedure

Course Registration
Students shall register for courses semester by semester.
Registration Period
There shall be a stipulated period for registration to be determined by the College Academic Board. A returning student who fails to register during the stipulated period shall be deemed to be registering late and shall pay a late registration fee as determined by College Management.
Maximum Units
No student shall be allowed to register above the maximum number of units.
Completion of Registration
Each student must complete the registration for each semester within the period prescribed for registration.

Attendance at Lectures & Programme Duration

Attendance
Attendance at lectures is mandatory.
Minimum Attendance Percentage
A student shall be expected to attend lectures regularly and achieve at least 70% attendance to be allowed to sit for examinations.
Programme Duration
The NCE programme lasts for three years, with each year divided into two semesters.
Extension Period
An extension of a maximum of two years shall be granted to average students to complete the programme.
Maximum Time Limit
A student who is unable to complete the programme within the maximum extended period shall be required to withdraw from the programme.

Eligibility for the Award of NCE & Final Assessment

Minimum Units Completion
To be eligible for the award of NCE, a candidate must satisfactorily complete the minimum number of units prescribed for the programme.
Compulsory Courses
The candidate must also pass all compulsory courses as specified in the minimum standard, including the Teaching Practice.
Final Award Basis
The final award of certificate shall be based on the cumulative grade point in each subject area and approved by the Academic Board.
Award of Certificate
A candidate who has satisfactorily completed all requirements for the award of certificate shall be awarded a certificate as indicated by the Academic Board.
