It was an engaging and culturally enriching session as students of ENG 217 (Introduction to Orature) showcased their fieldwork presentations under the guidance of Sir (Chief) S. Ola Ajimisan, the lecturer in charge.
The class was divided into three groups, each presenting unique aspects of the rich traditions of Ilawe:
Group 1 took us on a vibrant journey into the Ilawe Ikereje Festival, highlighting its origin, cultural significance, and the unity it fosters within the community.
Group 2 beautifully explored the Marriage Rites in Ilawe, shedding light on traditional practices, family roles, and the values embedded in the institution of marriage.
Group 3 presented an insightful account of Burial Rites of Ilawe Chiefs, explaining the sacred processes, customs, and respect accorded to departed leaders. The presentations were not only informative but also deeply reflective of the importance of preserving our cultural heritage through orature. Students demonstrated excellent research, teamwork, and presentation skills.
Kudos to all the groups for a job well done and to our esteemed lecturer for his guidance and commitment to cultural education.
