The School of Languages, Arts and Socials Sciences are parts of the first approved schools for the Federal College of Education, Ilawe-Ekiti that was established on 3rd April, 2023 under the administration of the late Nigerian President, Muhamadu Buhari. The school started formally with the admission of the first set of students and the maiden semester started on 5th May, 2025. The school of Languages, Arts and Social Sciences stand out in Federal College of Education, Ilawe-Ekiti, because of their humanitarian dispositions and community life engagements. The schools of Languages, Arts and Social Sciences key into the general purpose for the establishment of the college, which is to provide higher education, particularly for NCE graduates, through a dual mode degree program. The humanitarian nature of these schools have made them cardinal in celebrating African culture and heritage and the academic enrichments that these schools provide make them strategic in shaping, equipping and empowering youngsters for rich academic career and transformational leadership.166 students were matriculated to these schools during the maiden matriculation of the school that took place on 2nd September, 2025.
There are five departments in the School of Languages, Arts and Social Sciences and they are:

The schools of Languages, Arts and Social Sciences have qualified and experienced teaching and non-teaching staff members. These schools started with 38 teaching staff members and 4 non-teaching staff members. The pioneering dean of the schools is Dr. Kayode Peter Kareem, the Head of the Department for History, Social Studies and Christian Religious Studies is Dr. Adebayo Adesoji Adeokin and Miss. Soneye Ooreoluwa Ifeoluwa is the coordinator for the school of Languages. Miss. Tolulope Banke Apata is the schools’ officer and Mr. Aremu Oluwaseun John is the schools’ Higher Executive Officer.
Department of English:
English, being an international language and the language used mostly in international researches, the Department of English exists to provide needed exposure to students through the provision of basic knowledge about English Language and its existing peculiarities so that they can rub their shoulders with their peers from all spheres of life. The courses being taught introduce students to parts of speech, English composition, communication skills, sentence structures and literary concepts such as drama, prose and poetry on both national and international levels. The course is not just aimed at making the products of the department teachers, but to also raise highly creative and inquisitive graduates who can thrive anywhere in this AI-dominated digital age. There are Nine lecturers in the Department of English.
Department of History
History, being the attempt to raid the past in order to stock the museum of the present, is essential in injecting necessary exposure to students who are potential stakeholders in the society. The Department of History exists to impart timely knowledge about history that will help students to know the past and use it to shape the future through cultural preservation, historical consciousness, critical thinking and historical research. The knowledge that history provides will help students to know their cultural identity, shape their thinking and make them potential nation-builders who can intelligently blend the past with the present and use the resultant knowledge to build the society on national and international scale. There are nine lecturers in the Department of History.
Department of Christian Religious Studies
Religion is a universal phenomenon and as a result, its study has been encouraged in order to curb religious excesses and make religion an agent of social change. The Department of Christian Religious Studies exists to promote academic study of religious concepts, ideologies, values, propositions, biblical languages such as Greek and Hebrew, the relevance of religion to modern man and how academic study of religion can help to ameliorate religious fanaticism in Nigeria. The department has the goal of fostering reason-based religious ideologies, sound mind, interreligious relations and promoting morality among students in order for them to be agents of positive change. The critical historical research being championed by the department is a clear proof that religion has not outlived its academic and social relevance. There are five lecturers in the Department of Christian Religious Studies.
Department of Social Studies
Human beings are social beings and as a result, socialization is cardinal to the existence of any society. Social studies, which is the study of man and his physical, economic and social environment, intends to promote socialization through injection of core cultural, societal, national and international norms and values to students. The Department of Social Studies pursues the vision of imparting timely knowledge on students in order to promote their social consciousness and make them reasonable agents of socialization. The department supports socially related programmes like sport, cultural displays, social clubs, social hangouts, etc. that foster socially active educational atmosphere. The department does not just limit its scope to imparting knowledge for social awareness; it has the overriding concern of making students self-reliance, innovative and agents of positive social change.
Department of Yoruba
Yoruba is one of the major languages in Nigeria and consequently, its teaching and learning has always been encouraged in Nigerian schools. Yoruba Language courses deal with Yoruba parts of speech, sentences, sentence analysis, prose, poetry, religion in Yoruba land, Yoruba traditional and modern society and their relevance to learners. Consequently, the department of Yoruba exists to promote the study of Yoruba language and culture on national and international scale. The courses being taught are meant to expose students to the significance of Yoruba language, culture, norms, values, religion and Yoruba social groups that will help to integrate them to any Yoruba society they may find themselves in. The Department of Yoruba has the vision of empowering students mentally, culturally, socially and morally to recognize the importance of Yoruba language, culture, philosophy, ideologies and Yoruba social structure in order to preserve and transmit Yoruba culture, values and heritage. The said empowerment will fortify them to be creative, innovative, self-reliance and agents to positive change.
