The Federal College of Education, Ilawe-Ekiti, on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, successfully commenced its 2025/2026 freshers’ orientation programme, designed to introduce new students to the College’s structure, expectations, and core values.
The programme, themed “Preparing Professional Teachers for Academic Excellence and Character Development,” began at 10:47 a.m. with an opening prayer led by Mrs Yakubu Restore. Principal Officers were warmly received, followed by the rendition of the national anthem.
The introduction of Principal Officers was anchored by the College PRO. In attendance were the Acting Provost and College Librarian, Dr Abdulmumin Isah, the College Bursar, Mrs Mofoluso-David, and other key officers. Mr Abubakar Olarenwaju represented the Registrar, Dr Khadijah W. Garba, while Mr Badmus Bamidele Ibrahim represented the College Librarian. Also seated at the high table were Deans, Directors, and Heads of Departments.
The welcome address was delivered by the Dean of Student Affairs, Dr Taiwo Temilayo Grace, who urged students to maintain discipline, exhibit good character, and comply with the rules and regulations of the College. She also advised students to submit complaints through the appropriate channels, particularly the Student Affairs Division.
The Acting Provost, Dr Abdulmumin Isah, gave the opening remarks, officially welcoming the freshers and emphasising the importance of focus, integrity, and responsibility. Following his remarks, the College Anthem was officially launched, marking a significant highlight of the event.
Delivering a presentation on behalf of the Registrar, Mr Abubakar Olarenwaju spoke on the history, vision, and mission of the College, as well as the roles of principal officers, directors, deans, and Heads of Departments. He noted that the NCE programme runs for three years and emphasised that students must attain at least 70% attendance to qualify for examinations. He also warned against examination malpractice and misconduct, noting that offenders risk suspension, rustication, or expulsion.
The College Bursar, Mrs Mofoluso-David, enlightened students on the financial operations of the College, highlighting its cashless policy. She also introduced the NELFUND initiative, an interest-free loan scheme aimed at supporting students, with repayment beginning two years after the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). Students were cautioned against engaging in fraudulent financial practices.
