3-Day Research and Paper Writing Workshop Kicks Off Successfully at FCE, Ilawe-Ekiti

Day One of the highly anticipated 3-Day Workshop on Research and Paper Writing at the Federal College of Education, Ilawe-Ekiti commenced successfully on Monday, 30th March, 2026, with an impressive turnout of participants, marking the beginning of an intellectually enriching experience.

The event began with the arrival and registration of participants, followed by the opening ceremony which featured the opening prayer, national anthem, and introduction of distinguished guests. In his opening remarks,Dr. Abdulmumin Isah, the Ag. Provost warmly welcomed participants and emphasized the critical role of research in academic advancement, institutional growth, and national development. He encouraged participants to take full advantage of the workshop to enhance their research capacity and productivity.
The Dean, School of Science, Vocational and Technical Education, Dr Afolabi Akinjide, in his remarks, reiterated the importance of equipping staff and students with practical research and academic writing skills. He highlighted that the workshop was carefully designed to bridge existing gaps in research competence and to position participants for global academic relevance.
The first seminar session was delivered by Dr. A. O. Lasode, on “Research and Paper Writing: Beginner’s Approach.” In his presentation, he introduced participants to the fundamental concepts of research, defining research as a systematic process of inquiry aimed at generating new knowledge. He also explained key terms such as research paper, journal articles, and journal publishing. Dr. Lasode further outlined the attributes of a good research paper, including originality, clarity, strong methodology, and proper citation. He encouraged participants to develop passion for research, identify their areas of specialization, and seek mentorship as they grow in their academic careers.
After a short lunch break, the second session was handled by Prof. Isaac A. Ololade, a guest scholar from Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko. His presentation focused on research proposals, grant acquisition, and high-quality academic writing. He provided in-depth insights into how to develop winning research proposals, stressing the importance of clarity, originality, and alignment with funding priorities. He also guided participants on essential components of a research proposal, including the title, introduction, research problem, objectives, methodology, expected outcomes, timeline, and budget.
Prof. Ololade emphasized that successful proposals must address real-world problems, demonstrate novelty, and clearly communicate their potential impact. He further advised participants to adhere strictly to guidelines, proofread thoroughly, and anticipate reviewers’ expectations to improve acceptance rates for grants and publications.
The day concluded with interactive discussions, where participants engaged actively with facilitators, asking questions and sharing insights.
Day One set a strong foundation for the workshop, equipping participants with essential knowledge and practical strategies for effective research and paper writing. Participants look forward to more engaging sessions in the coming days.
